Meeting The Icon who gave every Indian a dream to dream

Never knew that spraining my foot to get a ligament fracture and preponing my flight from Bangalore to Delhi will become a blessing in disguise. Here I was settled in my seat and in walks the "MAN" himself, the Icon of Indian industry, Mr Narayan Murthy. I could not believe my luck when he came and sat next to me. Initial hour went in thinking whether I should initiate conversation or not keeping so called Biz class etiquette in mind.
But excitement got the better of me. And it was a revelation. He is the perfect example of level 5 leadership, full of humility. He talked about how they started. Gave me tips on what to do if I want to start..... be ready to work for 18 hrs, let go of material comfort and status symbols, have an IP and a product which will help the customer by increasing their efficiency, productivity and be a differentiator in the mkt. Talked about values and need for good leadership specially in education and politics.
Shared how 6 of them got together for great Infy dream and they are still together after 27 yrs. He also suggested to have the exit strategy clear ... an IPO in long term or sellout.
He said it is imperative to have a supporting family and shared how his wife supported him. When I asked about how she managed two kids and a profession, he shared that she quit Telco job and took to teaching. Having parents stay in the ground floor was a big support.
He also talked about need for luck and said luck is an important aspect to be successful.
He enquired about my foot and shared his own incident of a ligament fracture. I could not believe that he was so easy to talk to.
Will write more later.
